Wine Dinner 2/17/24
A whole group of us who take the wine class did a potluck for a wine dinner!
I am in the back row wearing green :)
First Course: Riesling with Polish food
Heidemanns Bergweiler Blitz Riesling: The first wine on the roster was a Riesling from Germany. It was acidic and crisp with an apple bite.
Food: This was paired with Polish Pierogi and Kielbasa sausage and caramelized onions, all sautéed in butter.
This paired well all together the white with the starch.
Rating: 7/10 I thought the hints of apple in the wine was good but a little odd with the sausage.
Second Course: Salmon Wellington and Italian Red Wine
Cantele Salice Salentino: The variety was Negroamaro. It smelled sweet with acids the smell hits my nostrils with a punch. It was thick, sweet, and smoky. I tasted hints of cherry. A very good wine
Food: This wine was paired with salmon wellington with a red wine sauce. It was delicious to enjoy sips of a smooth wine with the fish.
Rating: 8/10 So Good!
Dessert: Port with a chocolate mousse
Henriques and Henriques Madeira: 5 year aged Tawny port. Tasted like raisins and molasses/honey.
Food: decadent chocolate mousse.
Rating: 5/10 I did not like the taste of the port and it made the chocolate mousse taste sweeter. I think a berry dessert would have tasted better with this port.
Such a fun time with wine and friends!
